small-town stars that burn so bright and blue when the autumn ruled the night we were so alive like in 1992 but in this moment I can't bring myself to watch it all pass by electric scars string up your mouth and sing into an empty void that never echoes back it leaves you down and paranoid swim past where you can touch and I'll join you at your side we'll tread for exercise isn't it so funny that the ones we love leave pieces? little bits of bone and nail and teeth in the ruins of our mind that we excavate in time and anchor to the earth the crimes we left behind so what I'm gonna do is take these former dreams and hopes and loves that cling to me strap them to a raft and cast them off for a burial at sea sew 'em up in sailcloth and salute 'cause where we're going, we don't need no roads and we don't need a place to hide. by sunrise the raft will wash ashore strewn out across the beach regret will come for you like a mob at your front door but in this moment now we can turn to see the sun maybe learn to have some fun today I dug the bodies up of old hopes and dreams I sank their memories to the depths of the sea looked toward the sun gathered the sand in my toes and roamed the beach 'cause where we're going we don't need the roads

somethin' here has gone to great lengths just to plan my fall one more night in this room and I might just scratch the paint right off these walls but hold the phone, I think I hear footsteps creeping down the stairs (and through these walls, I hear them whisperin') plots of sin and mayhem and murder-most-foul resounding in my ears (I can't escape, I think I'm sinkin' in) by now I hope you've figured it out before my secret gets out that I'm not giving in, not going down I know you're eager to hear about my biggest fears you know I turn it up then burn it down these hounds at my heels have reckoned that they caught a fox up a tree with all his teeth gone day 16: still can't get the bloodstains off my hands and clothes (I scream out loud, I hear them whimperin') when I shut my eyes I see their faces, panicked like I Am Legend here among my foes it's not like these fiends had given us a choice so don't be afraid to use your nails, boys a pox on the house of him who bears the claws all you foxes up trees with all your teeth gone

you've investigated varied mindsets lived through black-hole eternities you've escaped destruction from the clutches of your stilted reality are you at fault for searching when you know there's more than meets the eye? every morning we push our boulders up the mountains of our uncertainty just to buy some time for our own manufactured sense of tranquility are you at fault for dreaming anticipating sweet relief? (if you wanna make it outta Xanadu you'd better do everything that I do if you wanna make it outta Xanadu you'd better do everything I tell you) stop! system abort act fast, just cut the cord broadcast live for a new transmission stop! the signal is go stay tuned, it's all part of the show this ain't no natural distraction start shedding your skin we must relearn to begin (if you wanna enter into Avalon you'd better get to fighting 'fore the feeling's gone if you wanna make it into Avalon leave a flower on the grave of Algernon) as you put the pieces back together forming some kind of unity you begin to picture all the memories from your past life's deformities are you at fault for falling anticipating contemplating bittersweet? (if you wanna make it outta hypersleep pitch your tent at the feet of Socrates if you wanna make it outta hypersleep you'd better pray pray the Lord your soul to keep) stop! system abort act fast, just cut the cord broadcast live for a new transmission stop! the signal is go stay tuned, it's all part of the show this ain't no natural distraction stop! reset, press play backtrack, but not the same way we've got to trust one another stop! let us be clear we all forgot how to steer been misled by all our blind ambitions start shedding your skin we must relearn to begin

don't scorn me, sigourney don't pout at me, girl when i'm staring at the silver screen just know you're still my world if i make you feel distant if i make you feel small if i'm running out of things to say please know it's not your fault we'll make it through somehow our time is running out can we go back to the way the way we used to be? some days i'd take a quiet night over a life with you a cardboard pirate sword and posters in my room oh, i'm not that bad, you see i only wanted fantasy but when i try to explain all you ever get is mad at me don't you get mad at me don't scorn me, sigourney there's nothing to fight about if you catch me on my phone sometimes it's not 'cause i want out i wish you could fix me i wish you could frame me i wish you could hang me around your neck frozen in time like you and jonesy in the cryo tube at the end of alien 1 when you fled the nostromo after you saw the xenomorph on deck so help me, i still dream of different lives and distant lands a wigwam in suriname and gospel in my hand oh, i'm not that bad, you see i just wanted make believe but when i try to explain the only thing you get is mad at me lately i've been sleeping with your books under my bed trying to find the balance between waking life instead but it's overdone it's overblown the scenery is overgrown it's threatening to take over my head don't you see this space i'm in? can't you hear me screamin'?
